The Dutch driving theory test has three main sections: Hazard Perception, Traffic Knowledge, and Traffic Insight.
Hazard Perception is a timed test where you are presented with a visual scenario and must react in just eight seconds by either slowing down, braking, or doing nothing.
Traffic Knowledge tests your knowledge of the Dutch road rules with questions like, “What does this sign mean?”
Traffic Insight tests your application of the Dutch road rules, asking you to apply the rules in specific situations.
Ready for your test? You can book your CBR theory exam at mijn.cbr.nl using your DigiD. If you already have a driving school, your school can book the test on your behalf.
You can reschedule your CBR theory test up to three times with at least seven days’ notice. Within seven days of your exam, you can only reschedule to an earlier time slot (if one is available). On the day of your exam, you cannot reschedule.

When you arrive at the test centre, you sign in using your reservation number. You should arrive 15 minutes before your exam.
When your reservation number appears on the reception screen, you can enter the testing room. Someone will check your ID card and give you a computer number.
During the 30-minute exam, you will be asked a series of questions across three parts: Hazard Recognition, Traffic Knowledge, and Traffic Insight.
At the end of the exam, you will immediately receive your result on the computer screen. After 15 minutes, you will also receive the results of the exam via email.
The CBR theory exam for the car uses multiple question types. You might be asked to answer multiple choice or yes/no questions, drag-and-drop numbers to indicate a correct order, fill in a number, or select multiple correct responses for one question.
Most people need at least one week to learn and process the Dutch road rule information. At Theory College Netherlands, you can finish all of the lesson videos in just over a day. How much you need to practise after that is completely up to you!

Yes. Theory College Netherlands uses material directly from the CBR for our practice exams. This means when you walk in for your CBR exam, you already understand the material and processes.
The CBR car driving theory test has an allowance for people with dyslexia to take the exam in 45 minutes instead of 30 minutes. This extra time is divided between the Traffic Knowledge and Traffic Insight sections. The extra time is free for people who have a dyslexia statement by submitting a form within 14 days of your test date.
You can also choose to have the questions read aloud by the computer and listen on earphones.
To prepare for the theory exam, Theory College Netherlands’ unique approach utilises video to teach the main Dutch road rules. A video combines visual and aural information, allowing people with dyslexia to better understand the material.
